Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period saga ‘Padmavat’ (earlier titled as ‘Padmavati’) starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor, gets a release date. The film was cleared by CBFC a few weeks ago with a UA certificate. Now according to the latest update, Padmavat is gearing up for a grand release on 25th January 2018. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has confirmed this news but an official confirmation from the filmmakers is awaited. Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Padmavat to release on 25 Jan 2018… #RepublicDayWeekend.”
Padmavat was expected to hit the screens on 1st December 2017 but the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) did not clear the film for release on time citing technical issues during submission. The release of Padmavat is also being opposed by several Rajput outfits, who have alleged that the film distorts historical facts. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial venture is also going to compete with Rakul Preet Singh, Sidharth Malhotra, and Manoj Bajpayee’s Aiyaary, directed by Neeraj Pandey.
